Pdf Summary
This CASE presentation, developed with Campbell & Company, examines enrollment challenges affecting educational institutions and their implications for advancement and institutional revenue. Based on a 2025 online survey of 76 respondents from the United States and the United Kingdom, the research highlights global demographic shifts, policy changes, and market factors that are shaping enrollment trends.

The presentation frames advancement as a strategic, integrated approach to managing relationships with key constituencies, including alumni, donors, policymakers, the media, and community members. A central theme is that enrollment issues are no longer only an admissions concern; they increasingly require coordinated institutional responses involving advancement, fundraising, recruitment, employability, rankings, and other revenue-generating efforts.

Key findings emphasize the need to “act and invest now.” Institutions are encouraged to proactively explore alternative solutions and consider initiatives they may not previously have pursued. The research also suggests that advancement’s role is expanding beyond traditional fundraising to support broader institutional goals, especially international recruitment and institutional reputation.

The presentation includes polling and discussion about whether institutions are currently experiencing, have recently experienced, or expect to experience an enrollment crisis. It also highlights levels of institutional preparation and concern, and stresses the value of collaborative teamwork across departments.

Overall, the main takeaway is that institutions should respond early, invest strategically in advancement and revenue opportunities, and work collaboratively to address enrollment pressures before they become more severe.
