Video Summary
The webinar introduced the latest CASE Insights on Philanthropy report for the UK and Ireland and thanked the survey advisory committee and participating institutions. Pamela Agar explained that participation has dipped slightly because many advancement teams are under-resourced, and CASE is responding by offering a shorter survey version more widely next year. She also noted CASE’s growing role in national philanthropy policy discussions.

Deborah Trumbull then outlined how the survey data is used for benchmarking, strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, and making the case for investment. She clarified the difference between “new funds committed” and “funds received,” and emphasized that trend data is based on consistent cohorts of institutions.

Fleming Puckett presented the main findings: participating institutions reported £1.55 billion in new funds committed and £1.33 billion in funds received in 2024–25. While totals dipped slightly year over year, longer-term trends show strong growth. Donor numbers, especially alumni donors, continue to decline across the sector, though investment and staffing in advancement have generally increased. Individuals—alumni and non-alumni—are growing as a source of gifts, while trusts, foundations, and companies have declined in recent years. He stressed the importance of donor retention, stewardship, reporting impact, and building the “middle” of the giving pipeline.

Divya Krishnaswamy concluded with a demo of the new benchmarking platform, showing how participants can access reports, comparison groups, data explorer tools, and downloadable slide decks. She also noted that the older benchmarking toolkit will be retired soon.
