Pdf Summary
The CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) Insights on Philanthropy in International and Independent Schools Survey is a benchmarking tool designed for non-U.S. member schools to evaluate their fundraising and advancement efforts. Launched as a pilot in 2025, it targets international and independent schools globally, including regions such as Australia/New Zealand, Canada, Latin America, and the UK/Ireland. The survey uses broad, global language and conditional logic to accommodate diverse school types and geographies.

Participation benefits include identifying organizational strengths and weaknesses, setting realistic, data-driven goals, and enabling consistent benchmarking to inform strategic decision-making. The survey covers multiple sections: data agreements, school details, financial operations, advancement structures, funds received, new funds committed, advancement staffing, and expenditures.

Philanthropy is defined as voluntary private financial support given without expectation of anything beyond recognition and stewardship, aligned with a school's mission and social impact according to CASE Global Reporting Standards.

Key data collected include institution type, enrollment, endowment, tuition, operating expenses, and advancement program characteristics, such as constituent groups (alumni, parents, employees) and campaign details. Fundraising is assessed through two primary measures: funds received (actual monies and property received within the reporting period) and new funds committed (new pledges or planned gifts made in the reporting period), broken down by donor type and purpose.

The survey platform allows multiple users per institution, offers data validation checks with error-level management, and enables saving progress before submission. Institutions must submit their data by January 31 (February 28 for Australia) and mark their survey as complete for review. Results are accessible through the CASE Insights platform, providing aggregated anonymized data for benchmarking.

For access, institutions contact insights@case.org for accounts or questions. The survey supports strategic philanthropy efforts in international and independent schools by providing vital data for continuous improvement in advancement practices.
