This week, the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee introduced a significant tax reconciliation bill that includes several provisions affecting schools, colleges, and universities. Those provisions include:

• A significant hike in the tax on private college and university endowments
• Restoration of a modest charitable deduction for non-itemizing taxpayers
• A 1% income floor on the deduction for corporate charitable contributions
• Increased taxes on name and logo royalties, compensation, and transportation fringe benefits at tax-exempt organizations
• A permanent increase in the federal estate tax exemption level
